But after weeks of letting dust settle on this little story I reread it and quite enjoyed my own writing. Hopefully others in this tiny fandom will as well.

Excerpt: He flitted across the moonbeams streaming through the windows. When I finally set myself in motion, he had stopped in the last pool of silvery light and was regarding me. There were no flames to colour him there; he was all pallor and darkness.

The room seemed inordinately long as I progressed through it, skirting the benches and pedestals and display cases that seemed to sprout in my path. I thought the shadows about him grew denser as I hastened forward and a fear that he might be swallowed by them before I reached his side gripped me.

He waited, as still and pale as the statues I had passed, except, as I drew near, I could see the pink bloom of his mouth.

So I finally saw "Crimson Peak" a couple of weeks ago, and thought it was full of obvious plot holes (Edith's broken leg being the most egregious...) and fairly ludicrous amounts of gore.

And then without actually intending it I kept finding myself thinking about the characters, and the context of certain scenes... and the long and the short of it was that a week after dismissing it I found myself writing fan-fiction about it! (And in this case about the character I originally considered to be a complete cipher; it's amazing how writing from someone else's viewpoint gives you a new appreciation of his existence.)

I've always been in love with Gothic literature and classic film (most especially Dracula and Frankenstein). Needless to say, I fell in love with Penny Dreadful from the very beginning. With that in mind, I've created a fan fiction series for Penny Dreadful, which is hosted on Archive of Our Own as "Demimonde of Shadows". Like the sophisticated television horror series that inspired it, they are set in the late Victorian era. I was very disappointed when Penny Dreadful ended - thus I decided to write my own stories, and continue the tales of these wonderful characters I'd come to love.

Please note that my series does contain Penny Dreadful Season 3 spoilers.

There are 5 stories thus far, and the fifth is still in progress (with recent updates). They should be read in order. Please note that my stories are definitely rated "Mature" (they are for 18+ readers only), as they feature various adult themes, including some sexual situations + horror / gore, references to suicide and venegance, violence (some graphic), and other topics that may possibly be triggering for some. Each story is rated "Mature", with its own specific "warnings" and chapter summaries, so please read those for each, before proceeding.
